Internship Opportunities

MAAA provides internships for people seeking learning opportunities to fulfill requirements for academic degree programs, as well as for people exploring careers in gerontology.  Academic internships are most suited for students seeking undergraduate or graduate degrees in social work, gerontology, public health, public policy administration, or human services.  Projects usually range from 3-9 months,  depending on degree program requirements, intern schedules, and the specific nature of the project(s) chosen.

Interns will need:

  • good written and verbal presentation skills
  • basic research skills
  • listening skills
  • ability to take the initiative to ask questions, and be self-directed
  • ability to organize work
  • interest and basic ability to absorb and synthesize information for program planning and policy purposes

Depending on the projects the intern chooses, he/she will gain experience in:

  • Qualitative research and evaluation
  • Project/program coordination
  • Multi-agency collaboration
  • Public policy advocacy
  • Public presentations and outreach
